What Will I See?
Our Gray Line Florence guided tour of the Tuscan countryside will give you an in-depth understanding of the rich farming traditions of the region. Sample wines and local delicacies from different medieval farms that take great pride in their craft. Marvel at the winding narrow roads and unique Tuscan architecture in cities like Greve, Montalcino and Montepulciano.
What Will I Do?
Our expert drivers will first take you through the hilly expanse of Chianti to the historic city of Greve. The area is characterized by old vineyards, olive groves, and charming historical squares flanked by open galleries. Here, you can take your time and wander around the local Chianti handicraft shops. Next stop will be Castellina, a hamlet on a hill with some of the most famous vineyards in the Chianti region. There, you are guided through a tasting of different regional wines, accompanied by extra virgin olive oil, rustic Tuscan bread, and fresh lavender honey. At this time, you are also taken on a tour of their notable wine cellar.
A scenic drive follows, in which we roll by the picturesque village of Monteriggioni, with its ancient medieval walls. Next, we pass the desert clay city of Crete Senesi, followed by the lush green territory of Val d'Orcia, which is celebrated as a UNESCO heritage site. Val d'Orcia is dotted with cypress trees interspersed with castles, churches, and ancient Etruscan villages. It is en route to the famous "Via Francigena" that we stop at a historical farm for lunch paired with homemade fruit pie and renowned Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello, and Supertuscan wines. After lunch, we take a formal tour to visit the farm's wine cellars.
Following our farm tour, we make a stop in the medieval village of Montalcino, an imposing 14th-century fortress with panoramic views of Val d'Orcia. Montalcino's narrow streets offer dozens of wineries and artisan shops selling local handmade products. Finally, we end our tour in Montelpulciano, with its fortified walls perched on a hill 600 meters above sea level between Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana. Montelpulciano is well regarded for its distinguished wines, cultivated in the surrounding vineyards.
